Parklands High School - ManchesterMike Murray, Deputy Head Teacher at Parklands School.Parklands School is a large, multi-cultural secondary school, and like most large schools we have our fair share of problems. To help operate more effectively, the decision was taken to install a comprehensive CCTV system to enable the monitoring of pupils in circulation areas, and should the need arise, to identify any wrongdoers.Initially we brought in Global Installations Ltd for a consultation, recommended to us by the Local Education Department in Manchester. Global designed a CCTV package that not only provided a solution, but also acted as a day-to-day tool to assist the school's operation. We were concerned cost would be prohibitive, however Global provided a no nonsense response supplying a system that worked and to a budget we could afford. The CCTV was installed during a school holiday period resulting in minimal disruption to the running of the school. We now have a 54-camera system recorded onto state-of-the-art digital hard disk recorders, which negated the need for us to use antiquated cassette tapes. The system is also networked to enable easy access to live and playback images by authorised staff from any computer on the school network. Quality of live and playback images was paramount as we wanted to not only monitor the pupils but identify them. The state of the art digital technology offered easy and speedy retrieval of playback footage, but also a 'zoom in' facility to focus in on pupils should the need arise. The system instantly acted as 54 additional hall monitors, ensuring any pupil's misdemeanours where captured enabling us to have hard evidence rather that eyewitness accounts. Within a week of Global Installations installing the new CCTV system, I was successfully able to identify perpetrators of graffiti, vandalism and whilst monitoring live camera pictures from the computer in my office, was able to alert and direct teachers to an act of bullying as it happened, and catch the bullies 'in the act'. The system is paying for itself already! Selecting Global was not a difficult decision as they embrace one of the largest ranges of products and technical support services available. Their expertise stretches across all security applications from single camera systems to sophisticated multi site, networked solutions as used in large town centres and retail developments. As well as working with property management, blue chip companies, on multi-storey car parks and Courts spanning the North of England, Global have installed systems at a vast number of primary and secondary schools. Global did a superb job. We heard excellent reports about Global's installations, service and support that were reaffirmed after visiting other sites where Global had designed and implemented security systems. They listened to our requirements and provided a solution, which has and will be of great help in the day-to-day improvement of the running of school, and pupil behaviour as well as security. |
